Marshall shoots 12 sixes to set new world record

Toronto, Aug 23 (PTI) West Indies' Xavier Marshall has become the first batsman in cricket history to hit a dozen sixes in a one-day match as he blasted 12 sixes enroute to his unbeaten 157 against Canada here.

The Caribbean batsman's incredible feat destroyed a 12-year-old record as he eclipsed Sanath Jayasuriya's recordof 11 sixes set in 1996.

Shahid Afridi had equalled Jayasuriya's record after sixmonth when he scored fastest one-day century.

Marshall butchered Canada's bowler and set up a 49-run triumph in the first Scotiabank Canada Cup ODI triangularseries being played at King City yesterday.

The 22-year-old Marshall also plundered 11 fours and clubbed with Leon Johnson and Brendan Nash in 128-run and 111-run partnerships to guide West Indies to set an imposingtarget of 303 in 50 overs.

Canada made a brilliant run-chase but could only manage254 from 47.2 overs.

Rizwan Cheema from the hosts performed with both ball and bat and claimed three wickets and top-scored with 89 off 69balls, studded with six sixes.
