Thai medical team arrives in Japan

BANGKOK, March 15 (TNA) - Thai Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit says a Thai medical team consisting of 2 doctors and 1 nurse from Rajavithi Hospital arrived in Japan on Tuesday morning and is preparing to set out to the quake-hit Japanese city of Sendai.
The Thai medical team, consisting of 3 emergency medicine experts, Pairoj Khruekarnchana, Jirapong Supsaowapak, and, Panjasin Somboon, has been assigned by the Thai Department of Medical Service to travel to take care of Thai nationals in quake-and-tsunami-stricken Japan. They are expected to meet with 300 Thais at a Thai restaurant in Sendai.
The Ministry of Public Health is preparing to rotate this team with another 21 teams, 18 of which will focus emergency medical support and 3 on mental health issues.
Jurin added that the Ministry of Public Health would begin testing food imported from Japan for possible contamination. He insisted that the measure was not intended to aggravate the current situation in Japan but to provide consumers with protection.
The Thai public health minister also said that it was the duty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a travel warning and advisory for Japan. (TNA)
