Coast guard ships monitoring radiation level at sea near Sakhalin
VLADIVOSTOK, March 15 (Itar-Tass) - Patrol vessels of the Sakhalin
Coast Guard department of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) are monitoring the radiation level at seas near the Sakhalin Island.
As of 09:00, local time (02:00 MSK), the radiation level in the seas surrounding Sakhalin is normal. Natural background in the Sakhalin region is 17 micro-roentgen per hour, the permissible level is 30 micro-roentgen, the press service of Russian Emergency Situations Ministry's main department for the Sakhalin region reported.
Intensive surveillance over the radiation situation continues; units of a number of departments are involved in the monitoring. Data obtained from observations are transmitted every two hours to the Sakhalin regional Crisis Management Centre. There is no threat to the population.
