There is no Iranian or Turkish Islam: Iran`s FM
TEHRAN, March 15 (MNA) -- Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said that Islam is one and the promotion of concepts such as “Iranian Islam” or “Turkish Islam” must be avoided.
Salehi made the remarks in an exclusive interview with the Mehr News Agency.
Asked about the attempts by certain Western countries to turn two regional powers of Iran and Turkey against each other by claiming that Turkey is an example of Islam based on Sunnism while Iran exemplifies Islam based on Shiism, Salehi said, “No two countries, even governed by Muslim rulers, are exactly the same… Iran and Turkey are no exception.”
However, Islam is one and concepts such as “Iranian Islam” or “Turkish Islam” do not exist, he added.
