Over 2,400 people confirmed to be dead in Japan's quake
TOKYO, March 15 (Itar-Tass) - The authorities in Japan have put an
official death toll from the devastating earthquake at more than 2,400
people. The quake struck the North Eastern parts of the country on March 11 and measured 9.0 points on the Richter scale.
Another 1,900 people were injured, while 3,100 are considered to be missing, Japan's central police department reported on Tuesday.
Rescuers are regularly reporting that more dead bodies have been found.
The emergency services have been unable to establish communication
with tens of thousands of people in the tsunami-stricken coastal areas.
