Houses handed over to flood survivors

Karachi, March 14, 2011 (PPI): Eight houses, constructed by the Umair Sana Foundation at a cost of Rs0.8 million were handed over to flood survivor families at Goth Hassan Malah, UC Bailo, Sajawal.

It is pertinent to mention that two model villages are being constructed for flood-affected families under Umair Sana Foundation at a cost of Rs12.5 million. The villages would have 125 houses, schools, community centres, vocational centres, mosques, dispensaries and dairy Farms.

The constructed houses have kitchen and bathroom facilities, beside water hand pumps and fibreglass tanks for storage of clean water. Trees are also being planted to keep the environment green.

Joint Secretary of Umair Sana Foundation Ubaid Hashmi, Project Coordinator Imtiaz Ahmad, Media Coordinator Nazeer-ur-Hassan, village elders and journalists of Karachi, Thatta and Sajawal attended the houses handing over ceremony.

Umair Sana Foundation volunteers and the journalist also attended the Rasme Hina of a local young man, Mehboob Ahmad. This would be the first weeding ceremony in this locality after the devastating flood last year.

Talking to media Ubaid Hashim said that after the floods the Foundation had started restoration work with limited resources. He said first batch of eight new houses was handed over to the flood survivors.

He said that during the flood Umair Sana Foundation provided free medical checkup facilities and medicines to hundreds of thousands of people all over the country.
