No tsunami threat for Russia's Far East

MOSCOW, March 14 (Itar-Tass) -- No tsunami threat is looming for
Russia's Far East from ongoing tremors in Japan, Director of the Russian weather forecasting agency Alexander Frolov told reporters on Monday.
"No tsunami threat is looming. But the tsunami early warning system is on alert, because the tremors continue (in Japan)," he said.
Frolov noted that the tsunami early warning system went off
successfully in Russia's Far East after a devastating earthquake and a
killing tsunami in Japan on March 11. Russia has made tsunami forecasts.
"No tsunami threat was looming for Kamchatka and the Primorye Territory.
About 11,000 people were evacuated timely from the Kuriles," he recalled.
Frolov emphasized that the situation is under constant monitoring.
"The aftershocks continue in Japan with two aftershocks and the high
seismic activity reported on Monday. We are monitoring closely the seismic events," he said.
