Thai Cabinet approves more assistance for disaster-hit Japan

BANGKOK, March 14 (TNA) - The Cabinet approved on Monday additional support worth over 200 million baht, for disaster-hit Japan and its people, on top of an initial five-million-baht assistance.
Acting Government Spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn told reporters after the Cabinet's weekly meeting, the additional assistance includes financial support and relief supplies, namely 10,000 tonnes of Thai fragrant rice, and 5,000 tonnes of glutinous rice, as well as warm clothing.
Panitan, also deputy secretary general to the Prime Minister, said the relief suppling would be delivered to Japan in seven flights, the first starting within Monday. This would be followed by the dispatch of a team of Thai forensic experts on Tuesday, to help identify bodies in Japan's quake and tsunami-ravaged northeastern region.
According to the acting government spokesman, Thailand will also send a 22-member mitigation team and six sniffer dogs to the disaster-ravaged zone if requested by Japan. Thai people have been invited to provide more financial support to disaster victims in Japan, through a specially-opened Krung Thai Bank account at the Sam Yod Branch, No.002–0–27146–8, to be directly transferred to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
