There should be no serious impacts on Thailand from disaster in Japan, says Thai DPM

BANGKOK, March 14 (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thaugsuban, said the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on Friday should not have serious impacts on the Thai economy, but the government has alerted Thai society to always be prepared for unexpected natural disasters.
Suthep's comments complied with an earlier assessment published by the Bank of Thailand (BOT), suggesting the Thai government work out clear disaster response plans, including relief measures, to prepare for any catastrophe that might hit the country.
The deputy premier said he would seek approval from the Thai Cabinet this week, for a 200-million-baht-bugdet for additional assistance for disaster-hit Japan, a call for increased support echoed by the Thai people.
According to Suthep, the Thai government is willing to provide whatever support is available and needed by Japan, including emergency food supplies and other agricultural products. (TNA)
