Denpasar, Aug 23 (ANTARA) - Eight experts from four countries are scheduled to speak at a one-day seminar on language empowerment in the Kuta resort of Bali island on August 26.
"The one-day seminar will be organized by the Communication and Informatics Ministry in cooperation with the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and the University of Indonesia," Moedjiono, a senior adviser on international relations and digital gap affairs to the Communication and Informatics Minister, said here on Saturday.
He said the seminar was scheduled to be opened by Communication and Informatics Minister Mohammad Nuh on August 26.
The eight experts would be Dr Chiu-yu Tseng of Taiwan, Dr Satoshi Nakamura of Japan, Dr Koiti Hasida of Japan, Dr Virach Sornlertlamvanich of Thailand, and four others from Indonesia, namely Prof Multamia Lauder of the University of Indonesia, Dr Hammam Riza of BPPT, Dr Mirna Adriani of the University of Indonesia and Allan Lauder of the University of Indonesia.
Moedjiono said the seminar was intended to inform the public about the existence of several research institutes which are currently developing language technology and translation machines.
He said research on the Indonesian language had actually been going for the past 10 years, especially with the purpose of increasing the capability of the country's human resources. But there was still a need for exchange of knowledge and experience with foreign and other domestic developers of language technology. The seminar would be a forum for the needed exchange.
