RADAR OF POLONIA AIRPORT DAMAGED, STILL UNDER REPAIR OVERSEAS

Medan, N Sumatra, Aug 22 (ANTARA) - A team of the Air Transport Directorate General found that the radar of the Polonia airport here which had been operated since 2007, had a technical problem.

The team's find followed a rampcheck on the airport's infrastructure facilities from August 14 to 16, 2008.

"At the airport's navigational system, the team found a damage on the radar, built in 2003, and is now under repair abroad," Head of Polonia Airport's chief administrator Yuli Sudoso said here on Friday.

He said that the paralyzed radar was a Monopouse Secondary Surveilance Radar (MSSR) built by the Bandung Institute of Technology in 2003.

In 2007, the radar was on a trial test and later used by airport replacing a Thomson radar which had been used for more than 20 years manufactured in France in the 1970s.

In view of the lack of equipment, he allowed the airport to use a French-made Primary Secondary Radar (PSR) dan Surveilance Secondary Radar (SSR).

On a different occasion, General Manager of Polonia Airport Alexius Kismoyo said that the radar is still under repair overseas, and may be completed in September 2008.
