Government seeks Thai King's approval of royal decree on House dissolution

BANGKOK, March 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has acknowledged that a proposal will be forwarded to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej seeking the Thai monarch's approval of a royal decree on the dissolution of Thailand's House of Representatives in the first week of May 2011.
Abhisit said it is now time for his administration to return power to the Thai people--although some politicians or MPs may not agree with him.
The Thai Democrat premier made the remarks after meeting with the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) to discuss an appropriate timing for the House dissolution to pave the way for an early general election--now expected to be held in mid-June or in early July 2011.
Once three organic laws on Thailand's amended 2007 Constitution are promulgated, which is expected soon, the EC will be able to organise the new general election. (TNA)
