Thai authorities provide assistance to Thais in Japan

BANGKOK, March 12 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing assistance for some 50,000 Thai people in disaster-hit Japan, with about 300 of them reported living in tsunami-affected Miyaki.

A powerful 8.9 Richter scale earthquake struck the northeastern coast of Japan on Friday, triggering tsunamis in several coastal areas in the Asian Pacific region and massive flooding along the Japanese coast.

Thai Airways International, or THAI, the national flag carrier, has had to redirect its flights to Tokyo from Narita and Haneda Airports, which have been closed temporarily following the massive quake. (TNA)
