Libyan authorities declare amnesty for rebels who lay down arms
RABAT, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The Libyan authorities on Friday
announced an amnesty for those insurgents who agree to lay down arms, the Libyan television channel Al-Shabab said.
"Those who lay down their arms will not be punished," the official
statement runs.
The fierce armed confrontation between the regime of Muammar Gaddafi
and the opposition has continued since mid-February. According to
international organizations, the sanguinary conflict has claimed thousands of lives, and forced at least 250 thousand civilians to flee to neighboring countries.
