Yemenis capable of deciding their future in their own - Russian FM
MOSCOW, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia believes that the Yemenis are
capable of overcoming the socio-economic difficulties on their own and of determining their future through dialogue, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
"We believe that the Yemenis themselves are able to overcome their
social and economic problems and to determine their own future through a mutually respectful dialogue," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "It is intended to unite under its auspices all political factions that are ready for a constructive solution of the urgent issues of further development facing state in an atmosphere free from fear and violence."
"Moscow has been closely monitoring the situation in Yemen, with which Russia is linked with a long history of friendly relations," the Foreign Ministry said. "We firmly support the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen and its struggle with the terrorist underground of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula."
On March 9, the president of the Republic of Yemen, Ali Abdullah
Saleh, issued a broad program for political reform, including a referendum this year on the draft of a new Constitution, as well as the
transformation of Yemen from a presidential republic into a parliamentary one. It is also proposed to draft a new election law and to form a government of national unity.
