Libyan army establishes control of the city of Az-Zawiya

RABAT, March 12 (Itar-Tass) -- The Libyan army faithful to Muammar
Gaddafi has established control of the city of Az-Zawiya, located 50
kilometers west of the capital Tripoli. This locality has for two weeks
been a bastion of the opposition movement in the west of the country.
The center of the city is reported to have been almost completely
destroyed with heavy weapons as a result of fierce fighting. The building of an hotel that the rebels had been using as headquarters was turned into ruins.
Earlier, the authorities announced the capture of the northern oil
port of Ras Lanuf, which opens up the way for the government army towards Benghazi - the second largest city and a stronghold of the rebels, who in mid-February rose in a revolt against Gaddafi.
