Training workshop on policy advocacy, communication skills from March 15-17
Islamabad (PPI) - Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) will conduct three-day training workshop on policy advocacy and communication skills from March 15-17 here. Communication is a vital part of human interaction since it affects virtually every area of human life and work. Effective communication skills are an indispensable asset as their advantages are many and obvious in enhancing aspects of our personal and professional lives.
Ineffective or inappropriate communications in our personal lives frequently cause problems or embarrassment but the results of such communications may have much more serious results in professional lives. Good communication skills are an extremely important aspect for an effective organizational behaviour. Professionals who can articulate their ideas are more likely to obtain favourable response and commitment from their target groups in particular and stakeholders in general.
Pakistan faces a number of cultural, social, political, economic and environmental challenges simultaneously. These problems together prove to be serious barriers to sustainable development, social justice and good governance. Better advocacy and communications skills leads to improved ability and competence of professionals to advocate about these causes in a more effective, legitimate and systematic manner. People working in various welfare and development institutions including the public sector, need good advocacy skills and strategies to carry on advocacy campaigns and movements in order to ensure good governance and sustainable positive social, economic and political change in the country.
The aim of the workshop is to help participants achieve a higher level of understanding and competence in communications and advocacy skills. Specifically, the workshop is designed to enable participants to learn about the conceptual and operational framework of advocacy in Pakistan. enhance understanding of various forms, techniques and strategies of advocacy, learn how to effectively design & plan, manage, monitor, and evaluate different communication, advocacy, and outreach campaigns, develop better understanding of co-relation between communication and advocacy, understand the process and essentials of effective communication and learn modern and improved communication skills and techniques.
The workshop will cover the following topics: Advocacy: A conceptual framework, the advocacy process, Techniques, tools and forms of advocacy, Framing and implementation of advocacy Action Plan, Evaluating Success: Change through advocacy, Developing information materials, Building partnerships, Media outreach, Potentials and constraints in advocacy in Pakistan, Communications process, Understanding the audience/building rapport, Verbal and non-verbal communication, Conversational control and Individual and groups presentations by the participants.
