Thai military will not stage new coup, says DPM

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who oversees national security, said on Friday he believes that the present Thai military top brass has had no plan to stage a new coup d’etat but having supported democracy.
Suthep expressed the confidence after he and Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva met chief and senior officers of the Royal Thai Army at the army headquarters on Thursday.
The deputy prime minister said he did not raise any special issue with the army top brass, and that yesterday's meeting only reviewed previous operations taken during his former roles as the director of the Thai government's Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES)--which was set up to handle unrest during anti-government red-shirt protests last year.
