Chemicals health impacts should be inscribed on imported items: Abid Ali

Islamabad, March 11, 2011 (PPI): Pakistan’s proposals for inscribing dangerous effects of chemicals in various imported items would be reviewed at international forum to prevent end users and manufactures from the adverse effects of chemicals. Joint Secretary International Cooperation Abid Ali while presiding a meeting stated that due to technical terminology and scientific data written at the labels of imported items do not aware consumers to understand the negative impacts of chemicals on human health and environment so it should be made mandatory for manufactures of toys, electronics and other similar items to prominently display the after effects of different substances of chemicals to be used in these items. He said a number of countries appreciated these recommendations and supported Pakistan’s stance to draft safety guide lines for all those who had been involved in using chemicals in common use articles. Abid Ali said Pakistan was raising its voice at all international forums to make efforts and promulgate binding laws for inscribing hazardous effects at useable imported items so that people could be educated at gross route level
