SURVEY: UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECREASES

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ A Labor Force Survey made in the 4th quarter of 2010 shows that labor force or economically active population aged 15 years and over reached 1,129.8 thousand, out of which 600.4 thousand or 53.1 per cent were men, and 529.4 thousand or 46.9 per cent were women.
According to the survey, the number of unemployed was 106.1 thousand--59.2 thousand men and 46.9 thousand women.
That time, an unemployment rate reached 9.4 per cent at the national level decreasing 3.4 and 6.9 percentage points at national level and in urban area, respectively, and an increase of 1.3 percentage points in rural areas from same period of previous year.
The number of unemployed who had registered at the Labor and Welfare Service Divisions in aimags and capital city and were actively looking for jobs reached 38.5 thousand at the end of February, 2011 increasing 2,542 persons or 7.1 per cent against the previous year.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the increase in the number of the registered unemployed happened due to the increases in Ulaanbaatar (1,818 persons), Bulgan (897 persons), Omnogobi (490 persons), Zavkhan (458 persons), Dundgobi (382 persons), Tov (302 persons), and Khovd aimags (292 persons) respectively.
