Biden to back Moldova's European integration

CHISINAU, March 11 (Itar-Tass) -- U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden is
arriving in Moldova on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and regional
problems and is expected to back the course of the current leadership
towards European integration and democratic reforms.
"I am visiting Moldova because it is a democratic success story. Last
year's election demonstrated the Moldovan people's commitment to
democracy, transparent governance, human rights, and economic reform. The
United States is already providing substantial assistance to Moldova to
assist with its development, and I'd like to see how else we can help. I
am also proud to be the first U.S. Vice President to visit Moldova," Biden
told Tass in an interview.
Moldova's Prime Minister Vlad Filat told reporters Biden's visit
"testifies to (US) support to Moldova." He said talks would focus on
bilateral relations, European integration plans, and Dniester settlement.
Moldova took unprecedented security measures on the eve of Biden's
visit. Three thousand policemen and security officers were engaged.
Specific attention is paid to the park near the Opera and Ballet Theater
in Chisinau where Biden is to deliver a speech.
