Thailand's auto sales likely to grow by 8-9% this year

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has projected that Thailand's total vehicle sale this year should be at least 850,000-870,000 units, some 8-9 per cent year on year increase.
Surapong Paisitpattanapong, Spokesman for FTI's Automobile Industry Club, said although world fuel prices would continue surging, Thailand's auto sales should remain sound, thanks to rising purchase power of consumers in Thai rural areas.
Simultaneously, the spokesman noted, people in Thai urban areas are paying more attention to buy small and eco-friendly vehicles--amid the recovering Thai economy.
According to FTI figures, total vehicle sale in Thailand last month alone surged by 44.2 per cent to 78,039 units. (TNA)
