Anti-Taliban militia announces “end cooperation with government”
Peshawar, March 10, 2011 (PPI): The head of a powerful anti-Taliban militia, Dilawar Khan says he will “end co-operation with the government,” one day after a deadly suicide bombing targeted his group. At least 38 people were killed when the Taliban bombed a funeral procession for the wife of a tribal elder near Peshawar.
Dilawar Khan talking to BBC Urdu accused the government of “failing to provide enough support. We are ending all cooperation with the government. We will not forgive Taliban for the death of our people, but we will avenge these deaths in our own way now.” old BBC Urdu.
Taliban said the bombing was in retaliation for militia’s support of continuing anti-Taliban operation by Pakistan’s security forces. But survivors of Wednesday’s bombing complained there was no police protection. Dilawar Khan and other militia leaders have long demanded more arms from the government.
