Literary, cultural activities to counter extremism: Nasreen Jalil

Karachi, March 10, 2011 (PPI): President Hamara Karachi Foundation (HKF) and former Deputy Mayor of the city Nasreen Jalil has said terrorism and extremism could well be countered by organizing literary and cultural activities.

She said the Fine Arts and Literature educates people to distance them from inhuman acts.

Speaking at a “Humorous poetry recitation gathering late Wednesday evening, organized by the HKF at the Old KMC Building, she highlighted the efforts of HKF in organizing such events to provide the Karachiites opportunities to mingle with each other. The gathering was organised by the HKF in cooperation with City Owners Welfare Association (COWA).

Ameer-ul-Islam Hashmi of COWA presided over the gathering which was attended by known poets namely Professor Inayet Ali Khan, Abdul Hakeem, Haider Hasnain, Saeed Agha, M S Alam, Azra Sadiq, Rubina Tahseen Bina, Syed Nusrat Ali and Naheed Shah.

Nasreen Jalil also laid emphasis on holding more gatherings of such nature.

Terming Nasreen Jalil’s efforts as a charge against peace disrupters of the city, Chairman COWA Mazhar Khan lauded the move.
