POL: Pakistan to hold Presidential elections on September 6

Islamabad, Aug 22 PPI: Pakistan will hold Presidential elections on September 6th, Election Commission announced on Friday.

Former President Pervez Musharraf resigned on August 18 after nine-year rule toavoid impeachment in the parliament.

Under Pakistan's Constitution, new election to the office of President should beheld within a month.

National Assembly, Lower House of Parliament and Senate, Upper House of Parliament, as well as four provincial assemblies constitute Electoral College for the Presidentelection.

Asif Ali Zardari, widower of slain leader Benazir Bhutto, has emerged so far as strong candidate of ruling Peoples Party to contest the election. But Zardari hasnot yet formally announced to stand in the elections.

Election Commission said candidates will submit nomination papers on August 26 whose scrutiny will be held on August 28. Candidates can withdraw papers till August 30. A final list of candidates will be issued on same day, Secretary Election CommissionKanwar Dilshad told a press conference.

Polling will held on September 6th (Saturday) from 10 a.m., to 3 p.m., in parliament building Islamabad and provincial assemblies buildings in provincial capitalsKarachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta, Dilshad said.
