SHC notice Secretary Interior, NADRA DG on Hindu’s plea

KARACHI, March 10, 2011 (PPI): Sindh High Court Thursday issued notice to Secretary Interior Ministry, Director General NADRA and others on petition filed by a Hindu resident of Mirpur Mathelo, seeking issuance of machine readable passport.

Petitioner Mukesh Kumar approached court seeking direction for Interior Ministry, DG & Director Immigration & Passport of NADRA to issue him computerized passport. His counsels Agha Ghulam Abbas & Agha Ghulam Shabbir submitted family of petitioner, resident of Mirpur Mathelo, already migrated to India in 2004 after issuance of No Objection Certificate by Interior Ministry and fulfilment of other legal formalities. But, petitioner stayed at Karachi for business purpose.

They submitted Mukesh, who already possessed a valid non-computerized passport, had applied to NADRA authorities for issuance of new machine readable passport. But, NADRA officers were not issuing him passport, stating record of his family does not exist in database.

Counsel stated this was fault on part of NADRA, but petitioner was facing hardships. They prayed to direct respondents to issue machine readable passport to petitioner at earliest.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Mushir Alam & Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, issued notice to respondents and Deputy Attorney General to file comments within ten days.
