POL: Pakistan never retreated on Kashmir issue
Islamabad, Aug 22 PPI: Pakistan has never retreated on Kashmir issue and maintained its historic stance for resolution of dispute in compliance with UN resolutions, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told National Assembly on Friday.
Replying to a question, he said during Pervez Musharraf regime too the ForeignOffice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs had never inched back from the stance.
On Indo-U.S. nuclear deal, Qureshi said agreement was yet to be finalized. If it issigned Pakistan also has right to exploit all means to meet energy demand.
He said Pakistan is not a signatory to 1951 Convention on Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol. The presence of Afghan Refugees for last three decades has multi-dimensional impacts including socio-economic problems, deterioration in lawand order, inflow of illicit arms, drugs and rise in unemployment.
``Assimilation of huge Afghan refugees population will exacerbate social tensions and have long-term political impact. That is why Pakistan cannot afford their assimilation as required under 1951 Convention. It has been our consistent policythat all Afghan refugees should be repatriated to Afghanistan,'' he added.
