Heavy snow causes major highways closed in Turkey
AFYONKARAHISAR/BURSA (A.A) - 10.03.2011 - Heavy snowfall continue to paralyze life in many corners of Turkey on Wednesday.
The highway between central Anatolian province of Afyonkarahisar and capital Ankara was closed to traffic on Wednesday due to snowfall and blizzard.
Dozens of passenger buses and automobiles bound for Ankara from Afyonkarahisar are waiting at resting facilities and waiting for the snowfall to end.
Part of the highway connecting the central Anatolian provinces of Eskisehir and Konya has also been closed due to heavy snowfall on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the highway between north-western province of Bursa and Ankara has been closed to traffic around Mezitler town on Wednesday after three trucks slipped on the highway and overturned due to heavy snowfall.
All bus companies with buses bound for Ankara, Eskisehir, Kutahya and Afyonkarahisar from Bursa have cancelled trips until Thursday morning.
Turkish Red Crescent Aid Society's Branch in Inegol town of Bursa province distributed food items to passengers waiting at Mezitler on Wednesday evening.
