Saakashvili to discuss new investments in Georgia during US visit
TBILISI, March 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Georgian President Mikhail
Saakashvili, who is beginning his U.S. visit on Thursday, March 10, will discuss how to attract new investments in his country.
"Saakashvili's visit to the United States is largely of an investment
and economic nature this time," the Georgian authorities said.
One of the main purposes of the visit is to attract new investors for
new projects in Georgia. The U.S. is among five countries whose companies make the biggest investments in Georgia.
In January 2011, the U.S. ranked seventh among Georgia's major trade
and economic partners. The top six were Turkey, Ukraine, Azerbaijan,
Russia, Germany, and China respectively.
During the visit, Saakashvili will meet in New York with billionaire
Donald Trump. "Following the meeting, a contract will be signed for Trump' s important investment projects in Georgia, which will become a serious investment breakthrough for the country during a complex economic time," presidential spokesperson Manana Manzhgaladze said.
Trump Organisation Executive Vice President Michael Cohen visited
Georgia in July 2010 to familiarise himself with investment prospects in this Transcaucasian country. He said Trump was interested in Georgia's land, commercial areas, real estate, hotels, and casinos.
In Washington, Saakashvili will meet with International Monetary Fund
Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn and U.S. Senate senior officials.
