Russian Emergencies Ministry to send relief supplies to Sri Lanka
MOSCOW, March 10 (Itar-Tass) --The Russian Emergencies Ministry will
send humanitarian aid to flood-stricken Sri Lanka.
"In accordance with the instructions of the government of the Russian
Federation, the Emergencies Ministry of Russia will organise the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population of Sri Lanka affected by a flood," a Emergencies Ministry official said.
The ministry's Il-76 transport plane is scheduled to leave the
Ramenskoye airfield for Colombo at 10:00 Thursday, March 10.
"It will deliver necessary humanitarian supplies of 30 tonnes - warm
clothes, food and power generators," the ministry said.
A flood and landslides that hit Sri Lanka in February left about
100,000 homeless. About a million people were affected by a flood caused by pelting rains in January.
