Thailand and Australia join hands to expand organic farming practices in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 10 (TNA) - Australia, as a country with well-developed organic farming capacity, recognised organic farming standards, and high trade volume of organic products, was preparing to share the technology and expertise with Thailand.

The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives held a workshop on the development of a Thailand-Australia organic farming personnel network, aimed at transferring and introducing new technologies and organic farming techniques. Such techniques include crop rotation as well as wholly non-chemical methods for fertilisation and pest control.

The Ministry believes through this learning process, Thailand would be able to heighten the quality of life for Thai agriculturalists as well as consumers, while further industrialising the Thai agricultural sector. The development of organic farming in Thailand has become increasingly difficult, due to the high organic farming standards set by leading countries.

Due to continued increase in global market demand for organic products, the value of such products worldwide has been increasing by an average of 10-15 percent each year, reaching a total value 60 billion US dollars in 2010. (TNA)
