Nisar Khuhro for teaching Sindhi language in schools of all categories
Karachi, March 09, 2011 (PPI): Speaker, Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhrro on Wednesday suggested initiating a move for promoting Sindhi language with spirit similar to that of religious scholars and followers of religions.
This he said while addressing concluding session of two-day National Sindhi Conference on “Development of Sindhi Language & Literature: Analytical research” held at Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) campus Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. Conference was organized by the Sindhi Department of FUUAST in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Khuhrro stressed on creating awareness for Sindhi language at international level and suggested that celebrating world language day like other days and taking some special measures for incorporating Sindhi Language in list of world recognized languages.
He said: “We often quote names of Shakespeare and other internationally recognized writers but we don’t have taken any step for recognizing our writers and poets including Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Shaikh Ayaz and others.
He said that Sindhi language is very rich because of having rich historical, cultural and social background, and added that there is a large number of foreign scholars who have conducted studies on Sindhi language.
Khuhrro said that when British ruled this region, they learnt local languages but our ‘brothers’ are not willing to learn Sindhi Language.
He said that there have been many laws made, resolutions were passed by the assemblies but there is need of practical work to promote Sindhi language.
He stressed on opening more libraries and writing of more books as the youth of Sindh could be involved in language activities. He also stressed on teaching Sindhi in schools of all categories.
On the occasion, he announced one-year financial support for publishing biannual research journal “Karoonjhar” being published by Sindhi department of FUUAST.
Vice Chancellor of FUUAST, Prof Dr. Mohammad Qaisar said University is playing vitol role in the development of Sindhi language and giving full support to Sindhi department.
He said that English language is 600 to 700 years old but Sindhi has 5500 years old historical background so we have to enhance work for the development of Sindhi language and literature.
Ex-chairman of Sindhi Language Authority Dr. Nabi Bux Kazi who is settled in Germany now a days, had tears in his eyes during his speech when he talked of Sindh and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
He stressed for working more in Sindhi language and literature and said that youth of Sindh should get involved in studies of Sindhi literature.
Dean of Pharmacy Ali Anwer Siyal, Dr. Jamal Hyder, Humera Roshni, Dr. Noor Afroz Khuwaja, Shazia Pitafi, Yasir Qazi, Dr. Kamla Jamrro and others also spoke.
It is pertinent to mention here that Vice Chancellor FUUAST Prof Dr. Mohammad Qaisar had announced on the first day of conference of opening of admissions in M. Phil leading to Ph.D. in Sindhi language and literature.
