300 surgeries differed as CHK gynecologists protest

Karachi, March 09, 2011 (PPI): Doctors of all three gynecology wards of Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) on Wednesday boycotted ward duties and closed operation theaters to protest against threats hurled to some of their colleagues.

More than 300 scheduled surgeries were deferred due to protest of lady doctors and admitted patients and their families suffered a lot.

Senior Registrar Dr Aneela, Dr Saima and other lady doctors staged a protest demo in front of the office of medical superintendent CHK. They said last evening unknown men forcibly entered the Gynecology Ward No2 and hurled threats to duty doctors.

They said the lady doctors of all three gynecology wards of CHK would boycott night duty till the hospital management takes foolproof steps for their security. They demanded banned entry of males in the gynecology wards and depute armed guards at the wards for security of lady doctors and staff.

However, patients faced a lot of problems due to protest of lady doctors. Hospital sources said more than 300 scheduled surgeries were deferred due to the protest. Medical Superintendent CHK Prof Saeed Qureshi could not be contacted for comment despite many attempts.
