Pyongyang wants to meet fishermen who said wish to stay in S.Korea
PYONGYANG (Itar-Tass) - The Democratic People's Republic of
Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday insistently demanded again that Seoul should
arrange at Phanmunjom border point in the demilitarised zone a meeting
with the four North Korean fishermen who purportedly expressed the wish to
stay in South Korea. The notification sent by the chairman of the DPRK Red
Cross Society says that if the South Korean side avoids holding such a
meeting, Pyongyang "will regard this as a conspiracy to abduct citizens of
the DPRK and will take relevant decisive measures."
The DPRK government and Red Cross Society in the notifications
addressed to South Korea demanded more than once the immediate and
unconditional return of all the detained fishermen and their vessel. The
notifications stress that every one of the 31 detained fishermen stated a
firm intention to return home. In this connection Pyongyang suggested to
hold in Phanmunjom on March 9 a meeting of the four fishermen who decided
to stay in South Korea with representatives of the DPRK Red Cross Society
and with members of their families so that they should confirm the
intention to stay in their presence.
According to the DPRK, the fishermen on February 5 lost their bearing
in dense fog in a part of the Yellow Sea and were detained.
