Islamabad police tighten security after terror alert

Islamabad, March 09, 2011 (PPI): In the latest development, the intelligence agencies have warned law enforcement agencies against potential terrorists strikes in Islamabad. An official of the security agency told PPI, a terrorist who was recently arrested by law enforcement agencies revealed during interrogation that a group, under the supervision of Commander Qari Hussain has devised a plan to target key buildings located at Red Zone besides key figures. He further revealed that terrorist planned to kidnap foreigners and attack diplomatic enclave and Aabpara bus stand. Key security officials and diplomats were on ’hit list, he added.

Sources said law enforcement agencies have been directed to remain alerted for safeguarding high-ranking security officials and beef up their security.

Meanwhile following the recent wave of terrorists attacks in different parts of country, Islamabad Police have further beefed up security in the Federal Capital and deployment has been increased at various public places, hotels and other important buildings, the sources said here Saturday.

Strict checking is being maintained at various points while police strength at the pickets has been also increased and every effort is being made to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens, the sources said. Checking at the exit and entry points of the city is being further strengthened and police patrolling has been enhanced in order to avert any untoward situation.
