Road-use ban not affect residents nearby, says Thai police

BANGKOK, March 9 (TNA) - The Thai Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order or CAPO has said the road-use ban near Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s residence, will not affect nearby residents and passers-by, and legal action will only be taken against those who cause trouble to citizens living in the area.
National Police chief Police General Vichein Pojphosri, in his capacity as the CAPO’s Director, emphasized the issue of the ban, in line with the Internal Security Act, was not meant to please the Prime Minister, but rather to protect him.
He said the Prime Minister might feel a little uneasy when being interrupted by protesters holding protest placards, but it was nothing he could not handle and he has not issued any orders for arrests.
Meanwhile, CAPO Spokesman, Police Maj-Gen Prawut Thavornsiri, admitted he had received several phone calls from civilians asking him about the road-use ban.
He wanted to make it very clear people in the area can continue with their day-to-day activities, and legal action will only be taken against those causing problems for locals. He added that, to this end, several checkpoints will be set up to monitor the situation. (TNA)
