M'SIA'S KENAF POWDER TO BE SHIPPED TO SOUTH KOREA & JAPAN
KOTA BAHARU (Malaysia), Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Symphony Advance Sdn Bhd (SASB)and South Korea's Samsung Cheil Industries Incorporated, which have teamed up to develop and export Kenaf polymer composites, are eyeing South Korea and Japan markets.
They have set an initial target to export 1,000 tonnes of Kenaf powder a month to South Korea, with an aim to expand it to 2,000 tonnes per month to include shipments to Japan, the companies said in a joint statementFriday.
Kenaf is a plant whose stem produces a coarse fibre on the outer layer and finer one in the core. The plant can grow to 1.5-3.5 metres and has a long history of cultivation for its fibre in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, parts ofAfrica and to a small extent, South-East Europe.
The Kenaf powder will be used in the production of Kenaf polymer compositematerial for electronics and automotive parts, it said.
Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Peter Chin Fah Kui witnessed the exchange ofdocuments to mark the collaboration between SASB and Samsung Cheil.
The Kenaf centre for collection, processing, packaging and distributionwas also launched Friday.
In the long-term, Samsung is exploring the possibility of jointly setting up a Kenaf polymer composite plant with SASB in Kertih Plastics Park in Terengganu,a state on the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
SASB's core business is in mid-stream and downstream Kenaf processes and products. It is part of the AqilQisti Group of companies, with operations inmedia, technology, agriculture and aquaculture industries.
Samsung Cheil is South Korea's leading producer of fashion, chemicals and electronics chemical materials. Its major products are synthetic resins such as Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polystyrene (PS) and electronic chemicalmaterials for semiconductor and digital display.
