Gunman killed in grenade blast in detention in Nalchik
NALCHIK, March 9 (Itar-Tass) -- A gunman was killed in a grenade blast
here on Sunday. The grenade exploded in the detention of the gunman, when the latter was trying to hurl a grenade at law enforcers, a source in the investigation department of the Investigation Committee in Kabardino-Balkaria told Itar-Tass.
"A police patrol stopped a suspicious man at a secondary school in the
city of Nalchik in Kirov Street at about 8.30 p.m. Moscow time on Sunday.
The gunman started running away and was trying to hurl a grenade at the policemen, but the grenade exploded in his hands," the source said.
The gunman died instantaneously. No law enforcers were injured. A
Stechkin pistol and 20 cartridges for it were found on him. The killed
gunman is being identified.
A criminal case was opened for an attempt on the life of law enforcers
and the illegal circulation of weapons.
