Thai migrant workers continue to arrive home from Libya

BANGKOK, March 9 (TNA) - Affected Thai workers in riot-torn Libya are continuing to arrive home, bringing the total to 6,000.

Following twelve consecutive days of arrivals, a flight carrying 260 Thais, including Ministry of Labour spokesperson Sutham Nateetong, arrived in Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Mr Sutham, who went to assist Thai workers evacuating from Libya, revealed that some 5,000 Thai workers remained in safe areas in Libya, a thousand kilometers away from the battle zones. If violence were to escalate, the Ministry of Labour will coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop an evacuation plan for the remaining Thai workers. So far, a total of 6,934 have returned to Thailand and seven more flights, carrying a total of 928 Thais, arrived in Thailand on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, one male Thai worker was found to be suffering from apoplexy, causing half of his body to become paralysed. He was immediately taken to Sukhothai Hospital. (TNA)
