Pakistan presidential election on Sept 6: Election Commission
Friday announced that elections to choose a new President willbe held on September six.
"Presidential elections will be held on September 6.
The nomination papers can be filed from August 26," ElectionCommission secretary told reporters.
The election will decide the successor of former president Pervez Musharraf, who resigned on Monday to avoid impeachment by the Pakistan People's Party-led rulingcoalition.
According to constitutional provisions, presidential polls have to be held within 30 days of the position fallingvacant.
A majority of lawmakers of the P.P.P. have backed party chief Asif Ali Zardari as their candidate for the polls though a final decision is expected to be made at a meeting ofthe party's central executive committee today.
