Freed red-shirt leaders to join rally on Mar 12

BANGKOK, March 9 (TNA) - Seven leaders of Thailand's red-clad National United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD)--who were released on bail pending a final judicial verdict--announced on Tuesday that they will join a new UDD anti-government rally in Bangkok set on March 12.

One of the freed red-shirt leader, Natthawut Saikua, confirmed the plan, saying that all the red-clad leaders will be on stage at the March 12-rally based on legal conditions set by the Thai court, including no word or activity which may stir unrest; so, he believes that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will not seek a court order to revoke the conditional bail.

Natthawut revealed that he would decide after the Thai government dissolved the House of Representatives whether he would run in the next general election as a candidate of the Puea Thai Party, aligned with exiled ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra; if so, he would call on votes from his red-shirt supporters.

Meanwhile, red-clad lawyers have carried on their attempts to seek more release on bail for nearly 100 red-shirt people who have remained in jail--following deadly political violence in Thailand, mostly in Bangkok's areas, from April-May last year. (TNA)
