RI ALREADY FREE FROM ECONOMIC CRISIS: PRESIDENT
Jakarta, Aug 22 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Indonesia is already free from the economic crisis but still facing many challenges to achieve a better future.
Indonesia's per capita income and gross domestic product (GDP) continued to increase, suggesting that the country had been free from the economic crisis, the president said in his address on the government's explanations on regional development policies at the plenary session of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) here on Friday.
"We must thank God that our per capita income has increased from year to year. In 2004, our per capita income stood at US$1,186 but it rose to US$1,946 in 2007, or an increase of 64 percent in the past three years," he said.
The 2007 per capita income exceeded the pre-crisis level, he said.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's GDP reached Rp3,957 trillion in 2007, making it one of the world's 20 largest countries in terms of GDP, the president said.
"Of course, the achievements arouse our spirit to step forward in pursuit of a better future," he said.
