Pyongyang suggests Seoul releasing its fishermen nabbed by SKorea
Pyongyang, March 8 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea repeatedly suggested that South Korea should hold working talks via the Red Cross societies of the two countries at the border point Phanmujom in the demilitarised zone, reported on Tuesday the KCNA news agency.
According to the news agency, Pyongyang insists on an urgent
discussion of the question on returning home a group of North Korean
citizens and their vessel who were detained in February by South Korean authorities and are now in custody.
North Korea resolutely denounces actions by Seoul which does not
intend to return home four out of 31 fishermen who "allegedly expressed a desire to remain in South Korea".
In this connection, Pyongyang suggests organising a meeting of those fishermen in Phanmujom on March 9 with representatives of the North Korean Red Cross Society as well as family members so that they should confirm the intention in their presence.
According to the North Korean version, the fishermen got lost on
February 5 under the conditions of thick fog in an area of the Yellow Sea and were detained by South Koreans.
The North Korean government and the Red Cross Society repeatedly
demanded in notifications sent to South Korea a return of all detained
fishermen and their vessel immediately and without any conditions. They
note that each of 31 detainees expressed their firm intention to return
home.
