Nixon to be questioned over sex scandal
(AAP) - AFL player manager Ricky Nixon has returned from overseas to face an escalating sex scandal and an investigation by his professional body.
Nixon returned to Australia on Sunday. He'd left two weeks ago, within days of admitting having "inappropriate dealings" with 17-year-old Kim Duthie.
The teenager reportedly spent much of Monday being interviewed by police.
Ms Duthie earlier posted on the internet nude photographs of AFL players managed by Nixon and released a video she claims was of Nixon and herself in a hotel room.
She claims the pair were involved in a sexual relationship.
Nixon has denied the claim but has admitted having "inappropriate dealings" with her.
The AFL Players Association (AFLPA), which oversees player managers, has ordered an investigation, headed by David Galbally QC, into the affair.
Nixon's return to Australia coincided with Ms Duthie's appearance on the Nine Network's 60 Minutes program in which she admitted she lied about being pregnant to St Kilda player Sam Gilbert.
She claimed in May last year that Gilbert was the father of twins she was carrying, sparking a scandal that has enveloped players, the AFL administration and Nixon.
Ms Duthie also earlier claimed to have taken photographs of a naked St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt and other players in a hotel room.
It later emerged she had stolen the photos from Gilbert's laptop computer.
On Sunday night, Ms Duthie admitted lying about her pregnancy and about miscarrying the twins, apologising to Gilbert.
"What can I say? I was 16, a stupid, immature little teenager," Ms Duthie told 60 Minutes.
"The fact that this started the whole thing from me saying that I was pregnant ... I mean it was one of the biggest mistakes of my life."
Nixon avoided the media on Monday, despite earlier telling The Age newspaper he intended to turn up for work as normal after returning from Ireland.
An AFLPA spokesman said he assumed Nixon had not yet spoken to Mr Galbally, who is due to report his findings by Friday.
AFLPA chief executive Matthew Finnis has said he would like Nixon to co-operate with the investigation.
Nixon, who could lose his accreditation if the AFLPA finds he breached his obligations as a player manager, has strongly denied having a sexual relationship with the teenager or using drugs in her presence.
AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou told Fairfax radio he already suspected Duthie had lied about being pregnant but said he chose not to say anything out of respect for the teenager's welfare.
Meanwhile, Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Kieran Walshe on Monday said about 80 officers who accessed Ms Duthie's police file had a legitimate reason to do so.
