Malaysia is still among the favourite investment destinations

SHAH ALAM (Malaysia), Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is still among the favourite investment destinations for Japanese industries despite the concerns on the higher energy prices especially natural gas and petroleum, said Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, Masahiko Horie.

Other than the worries of the natural gas and petroleum prices, many Japanese companies leaders are very happy working with Malaysians, he told reporters at the silver jubilee celebration of the Centre of Instructors andAdvanced Skill Training (CIAST) here Wednesday.

The event was officiated by Human Resources Minister DrS.Subramaniam.

Horie said there were 1,400 Japanese companies and 10,000 Japanese working in Malaysia currently and they were happy working with multicultural andmultilingual Malaysians.

He also commended Malaysians for their high command of the Englishlanguage, saying that it made communications easier for the companies.

He also said most Malaysians stay in their jobs long and only a smallpercentage like two to three percent leave their jobs.

"In other countries, job hopping is very often but compared with its neighbouring countries, Malaysia is much better." He also said the Japanese, who were used to being a homogeneous nation (single race), now needed to learn from Malaysia's multiracial andmultireligious society to adapt themselves for globalisation.

The multicultural, multilingual and multireligious nature of the Malaysian society provides the country the flexibility to deal with the effects ofglobalisation including the existence of foreign labour, he said.
