Ten thousand gather in Zagreb to demand government resignation

BELGRADE, March 7 (Itar-Tass) - About 10,000 people have taken to the streets of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, on Sunday to protest against the government's economic policy. They are demanding the resignation of the cabinet of ministers led by Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor.
The demonstrators are planning to march through the centre of Zagreb in what has so far been a peaceful action.
Croatia is entering a second week of nationwide protests against the government's austerity policy. Last week they grew into violent clashes with police. Dozens of people were hurt and 65 demonstrators were arrested.
Croatia's economic situation is far from being good. The cabinet of ministers is failing to resume economic growth after a two-year recession.
Unemployment has reached 20%. The opposition claims the government has
sacrificed people's social needs for the sake of the earliest entry into the European Union.
