Bahama flagged commercial ship rescued by Turkish frigate after sea pirates attack
ANKARA (A.A) - 06.03.2011 - A Bahama flagged commercial ship was rescued after it was attacked by sea pirates off the coast of Oman.
According to the web site of the Turkish General Staff, the Bahama flagged commercial ship "Guanabara" was attacked by sea pirates 330 miles off the coast of Oman.
Upon such a development, the TCG Giresun frigate of Turkey, serving as part of the NATO Maritime Group-2, was sent to the region.
An operation involving a helicopter took place and the sea pirates on "Guanabara" surrendered to Turkish troops.
TCG Giresun later left the region to continue planned activities.
