Tehran seeks close ties with Africans, Iranian first vice president tells Kenyan PM

TEHRAN, March 6 (MNA) – Iranian First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said that enhancement of ties with African countries is one of the priorities of Iran.

Rahimi made the remarks during a meeting with the visiting Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Saturday.

The Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to the policy of expanding ties with African nations, he said.

He also described the Kenyan prime minister’s visit to Iran as a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries.

Odinga described Tehran-Nairobi relationship as long-standing and historical, calling for the promotion of bilateral ties.

Iran and Kenya should try to identity each other’s capabilities so that they can realize the potential for expansion of ties.

The Kenyan prime minister is scheduled to meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

He will also attend a ceremony to commence the construction of Iran’s largest grain terminal in the Iranian southern province of Khuzestan.

Iran planned to build the largest grain terminal in partnership with Kenya at Imam Khomeini Port.
