UNFPA PROVIDES RP2.7 B TO W NUSA TENGGARA

Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara, Aug 22 (ANTARA) - The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has provided Rp2.7 billion in aid to West Nusa Tenggara province this year to improve reproductive health and develop population strategy.

"The UNFPA fund has chiefly been used to improve reprodutive health and develop population strategy including statistical data and gender program," the UNFPA program manager based in West Nusa Tenggara, Duddin A. Husein, said on Thursday.

He said the partnership program between the United Nations and the Indonesian government in the field of population has been implemented in the province since tens of years ago.

The program dubbed UN Reform is now entering the seventh cycle with each cycle covering a period of five years, he said.

The seventh cycle covers 21 districts and municipalities in the six provinces of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, West Sumatra, West Java, West Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara, he said.

The UN-Indonesian cooperation is laid down in the country program development (CPD) for Indonesia in the 2006-2010 period. Details of the cooperation are contained in the country program action plan (CPAP) which also lays a firm basis for the implementation of cooperation between the Indonesian government and UNFPA in the next five years, he said.

The other bases for the implementation of the cooperation are multi years funding framework (MYFF) for the 2004-2007 period, common country assessment (CCA) and UN development assistance framework (UNDAF) for the 2006-2010 period, he said.
