GARUDA TO RECRUIT 200 PILOTS

Jakarta, Aug 21 (ANTARA) - PT Garuda Indonesia will recruit at least 200 pilots following the arrival here of two Boeing 737-800 airliners this month, an official of the national flag carrier said.

"We need 200 pilots, hundreds of technicians and stewardesses to fill the vacancies provided by the new planes," Garuda Chief Communications officer Pujobroto said here on Thursday.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of the launching of the 'GIH' (Garuda Indonesia Holidays) website which was attended by Miss Universe 2008 Gayana Mendoza of Venezuela.

Pujobroto said the pilots would not automatically be employed to fly the new Boeign 737-800s, because their skills would be studied first.

"They have to pass tests and training first," he said.

He said that the new recruits, including from PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA), will be prioritized to fly Garuda's Boeing 737-300s, 737-400s and 737-500s.

"Some of them are prepared to fly 10 Boeing 737-800s," he added.
